Empart has been described as "extremely noisy, crude sonic chaos" (Billy.Crustie) and I agree, it's definitely very noisy and distorted, even the vocals are heavily distorted. This is, however, a tricky sound to achieve if you ask me, and you are since you're reading my e-zine. It's a tight rope between not sounding noisy enough and sounding way too noisy - to the point where the sound become almost grating in an unpleasant way forcing the listener to lower the volume so the music doesn't physically tickle the eardrums. And Empart have nailed the levels, it's blown out and noisy as all hell, but it isn't painful to listen to, it's on the contrary very nice levels of chaotic noise. Pair this with fast and cool riffs and you get something paradoxically more melodic than many bands that sound less noisy. At times they remind me of Electric Funeral which is one of my favorite bands of all time so that's saying something.
Intensity-wise I'd say Empart is somewhere between the aforementioned Electric Funeral and D-Clone and the strings remind me of the brusque sound of Shitlickers. The artwork and general design surrounding their two releases give off a very rough demo feeling which make me imagine that they still haven't nailed down exactly how they want to sound and with that in mind I started thinking about what I would change personally. I think I'd remove some, but not all, of the distortion on the vocals and perhaps bring them forward a bit in the mix (not sure how well this would work with crasher crust though, but I would try it). I'd say the instruments are great as they are, I wouldn't change a thing about them.
I do wish they wrote down their lyrics for us to read though, it's pretty difficult to make out anything without them. As it stands I can only briefly interpret the song titles in terms of themes, which seem to be about war, violence and capitalism. I've asked the band if 'Extremenoisehardcore' will have a physical release but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Since their first recording 'Speedfuckingnoiseattack' (one single track) ended up on tape I see no reason why this wouldn't though, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled when browsing distros that are known to import stuff from the US. Oh, how I wish it wasn't so expensive to import tapes from the US, there's so much good stuff happening over there at the moment. But sadly; shipping, import fees and taxes make any sort of smaller purchases not worth it in the slightest.
Anyway, this is such a solid demo. When picking favorite tracks I felt that I wanted to pick all of them, but if I absolutely had to choose I'd say 'Path to peace', 'End of disgust' and 'Revenge' are the best. The second this shows up on something physical I'll grab it for sure.
July 4 update: They answered! This will end up on a tape on Pogo Till You Drop and they also sent me their lyrics. Shoot me a message (starfighterjohansson at outlook dot com) if you want them!
